about

I wrote Phantom Caller many years ago about the reoccurring dreams I was having after the death of a loved one. I think this might be something we have all experienced at some point in time after a loss.

I recorded this version of the song with the talented sound engineer Lynn Bridges of Communicating Vessels - a fantastic recording studio in Birmingham, Alabama. Lynn plays guitar and percussion; I play bass, sing three-part harmony in vocals and provide hand claps. We were going for a Les Paul + Mary Ford feel for this recording.

lyrics

Ghost don't you sweep down to my dreams tonight
I know you want to pinch my cheeks for old times, 'cause
I've been on the other end of your black telephone
Calling me to bring you home

Ghost don't you sweep down to my dreams to my dreams tonight
I know you wanna take my curls and wring them tight, 'cause
I've been on the other end of your black telephone
Calling me to bring you home

But I can not save you
Can't say I ever had to power to
I can not save you tonight, no
I can not save you
I can't that I can blame you, but
I can not save you tonight, so...

Please spare me
Your robes no longer heal me
Your robes no longer heal my soul

And these dreams, these dreams
These dreams of you won't make things right
